If you still don't know what blond peat is and why it's so widely used by gardening and farming enthusiasts and professionals alike, we recommend you keep reading this GARDEN WEB post.
Do you know what blond peat is and what it's used for? Well, we can tell you upfront that it's a type of soil primarily used as an ingredient to create many substrates. Although it has a lot of characteristics, at first glance, you can distinguish this peat by its yellowish-brown tone (hence why it's called "blond" peat).
If you want to learn more about this type of soil, keep reading this GARDEN WEB post where we tell you about the characteristics and benefits of blond peat.
What is blond peat?

As mentioned, blond peat is distinguished from other types of soil by its more yellowish-brown color. The kind we sell on our website is a 100% organic and natural soil that is created through decomposition under anaerobic conditions and at low temperatures, gradually humidifying to the point where it transforms into peat. In other words, blond peat is the vegetable fiber created when a high amount of humidity is applied, such as the moss that forms in wetlands or swamps over time.
Characteristics and benefits of blond soil
The technical characteristics of blond peat depend on its origin. However, we can generally say that blond peat is characterized by having a more acidic pH than other peats (approximately 3.5 pH).
Another characteristic of this peat is its ability to retain water, thus keeping crops hydrated due to the type of fiber it's made from. Furthermore, thanks to its aeration capacity, it also helps plant roots move easily (which is a good characteristic for those with very thick roots).
In addition to being beneficial for plants, blond peat naturally improves the soil and increases water availability before new plantings, also due to its pH levels.
Finally, we must also remember that this type of peat cannot be used as a substrate on its own as it is not known for its richness in nutrients. Therefore, it is a good ingredient if you use it as a base material to create a substrate by mixing it with other materials like coconut fiber, compost, etc.

What is blond peat used for?
Being a more acidic soil, blond peat is ideal for carnivorous plants and some succulents like cacti. It can also be applied to other species that require slightly more acidic soil than normal, such as hydrangeas, heather, and ferns.
Blond peat is also used as a type of filler for potted plants, as it is more economical to fill a container with this type of peat than with universal substrate, for example. In agriculture, it is used to ensure that when cultivating large areas, crops have strengthened, quality soil.
In addition to these uses, blond peat is also used for other sowing processes, such as when germinating seeds or cuttings, as, as we have indicated, it retains water very well but also aerates the roots well (thus preventing them from rotting).
