A new month has arrived, and it's natural to wonder what you can plant in May.
We are already in the midst of spring, and if there's one thing that stands out this month, it's the warm and pleasant temperatures that encourage us to spend more time in our urban garden. In Gardenweb's new post, we'll tell you what you can plant in May, as well as some tasks you'll need to do in your urban garden. Keep reading!
What to plant in MAY: sowing, transplanting, and harvesting

As we mentioned, May is a time characterized by warm temperatures. This good weather encourages us to spend more time in our urban garden. But it also makes it possible to sow these crops:
- Sow in seedbeds: zucchini, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, summer cauliflower, lettuce, melon, leek, and cucumber.
- Sow outdoors or in a permanent planter: zucchini, cabbage, endive, peas (if you are in cold areas), pumpkin, beans, cucumber, radishes, red beets, and carrots.
In addition to the previous sowings, in May you can also transplant crops such as eggplant, pumpkin, cabbage, melon, leek, tomato, and onion. You can also harvest young garlic, chard, white onion, asparagus, lettuce, leeks, and broccoli.
Tasks to do in your urban garden
In addition to planting new crops in our garden, it is also advisable to perform the following tasks:
Stake crops that need it
If you already had climbing plants such as tomato plants and beans planted, they will have grown enough to need support to continue developing correctly. Although there are different products for this task, we recommend staking with bamboo canes as it is a 100% ecological and economical support that has great strength and flexibility.
Before planting in May, prune your plants
This task is essential for your plants to continue growing healthily and, as a result, provide higher quality harvests.
Fertilize crops
If you didn't prepare your garden with good compost, it will be time to give your plants a "boost" with the use of fertilizers. In this case, it is more advisable to use an organic fertilizer such as homemade bokashi as it will strengthen your plants and enrich the soil's pH.
