Winter is over, so it's time to think about what we're going to plant in April.
During this month, spring is definitely here, which means, on the one hand, that temperatures will progressively increase, and, on the other hand, that there will be more hours of daylight. This means that now is the best time to sow everything we plan to grow in the summer.
Do you want to know what to plant in April? Then keep reading this Gardenweb post and find out for yourself. Take note!
What to plant in April
Unlike other times of the year, in spring we have a wide catalog of vegetables that we can sow. However, some we can do directly in the ground or in a pot (if you have a container garden) and others will first require being sown in seedbeds and then transplanted to their final location.
For direct sowing, we can plant crops such as spinach, radishes, cardoons, lettuce, carrots, and parsley in the garden or pot. Other crops such as beets, eggplant, chard, zucchini, and endive can also be sown directly, provided they are protected.

For sowing in seedbeds, we can plant tomatoes, peppers, leeks, lettuce, celery, onions, asparagus, and the most popular fruit of this season: strawberries. In a few weeks, if all goes well, you will have to transplant these crops to their final location.
During this month we can also harvest the last typical winter crops such as cauliflowers, autumn spinach, artichokes, leeks, broad beans, and endives. Other crops such as peas, onions, spinach, spring lettuce, and green beans can be sown directly or previously in seedbeds. However, it is always advisable to do it first in a seedbed to increase the chances of success.
Garden tasks during this month

In addition to knowing what we can plant this month, it is also advisable to keep the following tips in mind:
-
Take advantage of rainwater: as the saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers". Collecting rainwater is an excellent idea not only for its quality but also because it will help us save one of the scarcest and most essential resources on the planet.
-
Remove weeds: before you start sowing, it is important to clean your garden well and remove all wild grass to prevent future problems. To prevent this problem from reinvading your garden, we recommend using a weed control fabric.
-
Prepare the ground for the coming months: April is a good time to prepare and apply mulch to our soil, as this will protect it from temperature changes, prevent weed growth, and improve water retention.
-
Beware of snails and slugs: this is one of the most common pests during spring. We must take measures to prevent them from approaching crops, as these small animals love plant shoots and leaves.
