In this GARDEN WEB post, we tell you why you should choose coco coir blocks for planting and caring for your plants.
Coco coir blocks are an organic and natural material that is increasingly used (by professionals and individuals) as a substrate for plants. Except for some specific plant species, such as carnivorous plants, coco coir can be considered a universal substrate as it is recommended for all types of crops.
If you want to know why coco coir blocks are a powerful substrate for many plants, we recommend you continue reading this GARDEN WEB post.
What is coco coir and why has it become so popular in the plant world?

Coco coir, as its name suggests, is the hair-like fiber found on the husks of this fruit. Nothing more, nothing less.
Until a few years ago, the husks of this fruit were discarded as they had no particular use. But gradually, people dedicated to agriculture and horticulture have been replacing traditional substrates with this fibrous material due to its excellent qualities, which we will explain little by little throughout this post.
Benefits of coco coir blocks for plants

Although you can find it in other formats, we currently sell coco coir in bricks or blocks where the fiber is pressed and dehydrated. This is done because a 4-kilogram block, once hydrated, can reach a capacity of approximately 75 liters. This means that, thanks to this mechanical process, we can transport and handle a large amount of substrate in convenient 4-kilogram coco coir blocks.
Coco coir could be considered a universal substrate
This material can be considered almost a universal substrate as its pH ranges between 5.5 and 6.5. This means it has a neutral pH, which makes coco coir suitable for almost all plants.
If this product alone isn't enough for you, coco coir is an excellent material for preparing all kinds of substrates. For example, if we make a mixture containing 40% worm castings and 60% coco coir, we will obtain one of the best universal substrates for plants.
Coconut husk is rich in different nutrients
Another reason why coco coir blocks are a powerful substrate for plants is that it is a material rich in different nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and vanadium; it also contains minerals such as sodium, manganese, copper, and nickel, among others.

All of this means that coco coir blocks have the following properties:
Retains water in the crop: Coco coir stands out for being a product that retains moisture in plants (but without it accumulating at any time).
Excellent aeration capacity: As we mentioned earlier, the fiber has good drainage that helps aerate the soil where the plant grows. This way, it helps prevent waterlogging and therefore rot.
Prevents pests: Another advantage is that it also has an isolating effect, which prevents weeds and pests. It also solves the deficiencies of a normal crop due to what we mentioned before, the ability to absorb and retain nutrients.
Retains and slowly releases nutrients: In addition to water, coco also retains minerals and other nutrients to release them so they are progressively absorbed by the plant.

Now that you know why coco coir blocks are an excellent substrate for plants, we invite you to visit our online store and place your order so it arrives at your home in a few days. Our coco coir blocks come pressed and dehydrated, weighing approximately 4 kilograms, which can transform into about 70 liters once hydrated.

At this point, we do want to recommend using water that does not contain many salts, because, as we said, the husk absorbs and retains nutrients, but also everything contained in the water you apply.
