Would you like to plant aloe vera at home? Keep reading this post from GARDEN WEB.
Aloe vera, also scientifically known as Aloe Barbadensis, is a plant that belongs to the succulent family. This species is notable for containing a gelatinous substance that has medicinal properties. In fact, aloe vera gel is frequently used for wound healing and to combat dry skin due to its moisturizing and soothing effect.
Because of these benefits (and many more), it is highly recommended to have a plant at home. Therefore, if you want to know how and when to plant aloe vera, keep reading this Gardenweb article.
Aloe barbadensis: when should we plant it?
Although it is important to know the process for planting this type of succulent, it is also important to know the best time to do it. In the case of the aloe vera plant, it is advisable to plant it by the end of winter, once the frosts have finished. If you try when temperatures are still too low, you will probably not succeed as the plant will need to overexert itself to survive and, therefore, will not grow correctly.
However, if you are in an area with a temperate climate or are going to plant aloe vera directly in a pot (as long as you maintain a constant warm temperature), you can plant it at any time of the year, with autumn and/or early spring being recommended.

How to plant aloe vera at home – step by step
Now that we know when to plant aloe vera, here's how to do it with a simple step-by-step guide:
-
The first thing we need are seeds. In the case of aloe vera, it is best to use sprouts from a mother plant, as they grow much faster than seeds.
-
After choosing the sprouts, we will have to prepare the substrate, which must have very good drainage and be rich in organic fertilizer. At Gardenweb, we recommend a mixture of our universal substrate with peat and a little perlite. In addition, it is advisable to prepare a gravel bed to prevent excess moisture.
-
Now you will have to add the substrate you have prepared to the pot, which must have good depth and drainage holes.
-
Bury the sprout from the mother plant up to more or less where the leaves begin, being careful not to damage its roots. Do not water it for two weeks.
-
Now place the plant in a warm, relatively humid place where it can receive sunlight (except at midday where exposure can be lethal).
-
Once the two weeks have passed, place the plant in its final location. Water it every 2-3 weeks depending on the climate of your area.
