Would you like to have your own fruit tree at home?
We believe that trees can only be grown in fields or plots of land and in houses with gardens. However, this is a myth, as we can have our own fruit tree on our terrace or patio and enjoy its fruits.
This is possible thanks to certain production pot models, such as tubs, which can house these types of trees in optimal conditions (if you know how to care for them, of course). Do you want to know more about these types of planters? Keep reading this GardenWEB post and discover how you can have a fruit tree in a pot.
What care does a potted fruit tree need? – Keys to successful cultivation

Although each plant has its own particularities, there are general care tips that can help you when growing a fruit tree in a pot or container. Here are some keys to successful cultivation:
-
Not all species are suitable: you cannot plant any fruit tree in a pot, whether due to root growth or other plant needs. It is ideal to opt for dwarf fruit trees previously grafted for pot cultivation, such as lemon, peach, and apple trees.
-
Be careful with excessive humidity: this is one of the mistakes we must avoid at all costs with this type of tree. To prevent water from accumulating in our container, it is advisable to place a layer of volcanic clay and perlite at the base, as they help maintain adequate humidity for these plants.
-
Choose a substrate that feeds your fruit tree well: these trees require nutrient-rich and fertile soil. We recommend mixing our universal substrate with perlite and worm humus. You will have one of the best substrates for plants.
-
Control watering and find a sunny, wind-protected location: fruit trees cannot tolerate waterlogging, but they need constant weekly watering. As for the location, it is advisable for them to receive as much light as possible per day, so look for a very sunny spot.
As for the pot… What type of container does my fruit tree need?
Although it may seem excessive at first, it is important to choose a pot that has a good size. This way, we can extend the time before transplanting our fruit tree , which is usually every 2 or 3 years. Furthermore, when we talk about the size of the container, we not only mean that it should have a wide diameter, but also a good depth for the roots to grow properly.
Production tubs, the PERFECT solution for your fruit trees
As we mentioned in the previous section, the best pots for fruit trees are those with a large size (at least 70-80 cm deep) and drainage holes, such as our production tubs.
The production tubs we have at GARDEN WEB are a perfect solution for trees to continue their proper development in any area of your garden, plot, or home, as they can be easily moved wherever you wish. Among the formats we offer are the following:
-
Plastic tubs with handles: these will be very comfortable for transporting your plants. They are very resistant to the sun and have drainage holes.
-
Tubs without handles: we have a wide range of different sizes and formats.
-
Low tubs without handles: these are a very interesting alternative for slow-growing plants with shallow roots, such as many cacti.
The production tub is used for growing large plants and trees. These large outdoor pots are characterized by being:
- Plastic
- Resistant to outdoor conditions and bad weather
- Very inexpensive
They are not decorative pots; they are a sturdy and very inexpensive product whose purpose is to store plants and trees in the nursery and facilitate their subsequent transfer. However, if you are looking for a large container that is also decorative, we also have the DECON model, which are black plastic planters with an ornamental touch.
