Would you like to have your own home garden but don't have space for it? In this post, we propose the ideal solution for these types of cases: vertical gardens.

A vertical garden is a very effective solution for those who do not have land or much space in their home to put an urban garden. In the following GARDEN WEB article, we show you how to make a vertical garden at home in just 6 steps.

What is a vertical garden?

This type of structure is characterized by growing plants in materials such as plastic bottles, pallets, or panels instead of in soil so that they grow vertically, as its name indicates.

In addition to saving space at home, this type of garden can offer you other benefits such as reducing carbon dioxide, filtering harmful gases for health, and isolating us from urban noise pollution, among others.

How to make a vertical garden at home

Now that you know why a vertical garden is an excellent solution for those who want to have their own crops at home, all you have to do is write down the materials you need to carry it out:

  • Used plastic bottles

  • Rope or agricultural tubing

  • Scissors and screwdriver

  • Soil and plant substrate

  • Support structure

  • Large stones

  • Plants we want to grow

Step-by-step to make a vertical garden:

Do you have all the materials we have indicated? Then follow this step-by-step guide:

  1. First, cut a rectangle on one side of the plastic bottle. The ideal size for a 2-3 liter bottle is approximately 10x20 centimeters.

  2. Then make two holes (one at each end of the bottle) so that we can easily insert the agricultural tube or some string.

  3. Now insert the agricultural tube through the holes and tie a knot to prevent it from coming out.

  4. With the help of a screwdriver, make four more holes in the bottle cap to promote the oxygenation of the compost we are going to use.

  5. Once we have the base of our garden ready, we will have to add the appropriate compost for our plants. We recommend our coconut fiber blocks for this.

  6. Our vertical garden will now be ready to grow plants. In this type of garden, we recommend plants such as cilantro, basil, rosemary, oregano, chamomile, and thyme.

Remember to buy quality substrate so that your plants grow strong and healthy in your vertical garden
