Would you like to germinate peach seeds in your own garden?

Although germination is a delicate and somewhat difficult process for gardening amateurs, it can be achieved with patience and by following a series of steps. However, if we succeed in germinating peach seeds, we will eventually obtain a peach tree where we can pick our own fruit. If you want to know how to germinate peach tree seeds, you just have to follow the steps we indicate in this GardenWeb article. Take note!

How to germinate peach seeds in our garden – step by step

As we have already mentioned, germinating peach tree seeds can be a complicated process (especially for inexperienced hands). However, if you still want to germinate peaches, we recommend following these steps:

  1. Get the peach seeds: to extract them, you will have to remove the peach pit. If you find it very hard, you can leave it at room temperature for a few days to dry and become more brittle.

  2. Once it is weakened, you will have to break it with pliers. However, be careful when removing it as you could damage the seed.

  3. Now that you have the seeds, you will have to soak them in a glass of water for 24 hours.

  4. After a day, you will notice that the seeds have gained volume. Now it will be time to wrap them in a moistened absorbent paper and then this in a piece of aluminum foil.

  5. Store it in the refrigerator at about 5ºC for 30 days. However, during that period of time you will have to check every 2-3 days to moisten the paper if it has dried out.

  6. After those 30 days, your peach germination will be ready. It will be time to transplant them into a pot or seedbed like those we have available in our online store.

How to care for already germinated peach seeds

Once you have completed germination, it is advisable to keep the following care in mind:

  • Substrate: Peach seeds need a substrate rich in organic material. We recommend making a 50:50 mixture of our coconut fiber with worm humus. Then bury the seed with the root facing down and one centimeter deep.

  • Watering: The soil where the seeds are buried should always be kept moist. However, do not overwater as this could lead to the appearance of fungi.

  • Light: These types of seeds require a well-lit area, but without direct light hitting the pot or seedbed where you are germinating them.

How to transplant peach seeds into soil and pots

If you have followed the care instructions we have explained, your peach seeds should already show some leaves after 15 days. If so, you can perform the final transplant in two different ways:

  • In a pot: in this case you will need to find a large outdoor pot for the tree to grow correctly. You can check out our production container section where you will find large planters for planting trees.

  • In soil: it is important to find a place that is sheltered from the wind, especially if you live in a region with a cold climate as peach trees are not very resistant to frost.
