Would you like to have your own fruit tree in a pot? This type of cultivation is usually planted in an orchard or a plot of land with a good extension.
However, why can't we enjoy this type of trees if we don't have a surface with these characteristics? If you want to have one on your patio or terrace, in the following Gardenweb article we tell you how to plant a fruit tree in a pot. Take note!
Fruit tree in a pot: Which one can I plant?
There are some fruit trees that, due to their characteristics (such as size), are more suitable for planting in a pot. Below, we explain which trees are best for planting in containers:
Peach tree
The peach tree is a fruit tree that can be planted all year round, as long as it has already been acquired in a container. However, if your intention is to plant it from scratch, it is best to plant it at the beginning of spring or in autumn. If you want to germinate your own peach seeds, we recommend that you read this article.
Lemon tree
If there is an ideal fruit tree to have on your balcony or patio, it is the lemon tree. Lemon trees in pots are a highly recommended option if you want to have a fruit tree at home as they do not require excessive care. The only thing you will have to watch is its soil as it needs to be a little acidic.
Apple tree
Apple trees are another good choice if you are thinking of planting a fruit tree in a pot, as you will get the same fruits as a tree planted in the ground, taking up much less space.

How to plant a fruit tree in a pot
If you have already decided what type of fruit tree you want to have on your patio or garden, we recommend that you follow these steps to plant it in a pot:
-
First, you will have to choose the right container for this type of plant. In this case, we will need a large tree pot that is about 80 cm deep and has drainage holes at the base. We recommend the 82 cm handleless bucket, a model available in our online store ideal for large trees.
-
Once you have chosen the most suitable production pot for a fruit tree, it will be time to plant it. Although it is possible to do it from seeds, we recommend that you acquire a fruit tree that is 2-3 years old as the other way is usually very complicated for amateur gardeners.
-
Now prepare the container with stones or gravel for good drainage and place a plate wider than the pot so that the moisture is retained a little.
-
Next, you will have to fill the large pot with substrate. We recommend our universal substrate as it contains high-quality black and blond peat for optimal plant growth.
-
After putting the substrate, you will have to remove the fruit tree from the pot it came in, being very careful with the roots. To make them spread better in the new container, separate them gently with your fingers so as not to break them.
-
Place the fruit tree on 20 cm of mixture and then refill the pot to the top.
-
Finally, water the fruit tree and leave it in a sunny spot so that it gets 8 hours of direct light a day.
